Youtube Camera Tutorials Are Frustrating and Endangering My Mental Health

Visual tutorials are valuable aids to learning, but the creators forget to stop and watch them with novice eyes; therein lies the problem.

Youtube is a wonderful resource of videos to learning almost anything in which you have an interest. That is, of course, if the creator stood back and forgot they’re an expert and watched the video through the eyes of the naive.

Too often, those little things that count so much are taken for granted and lost in the mix. My gripe is in photography. Not lenses or camera choice; I’ve already made those. I use Canon.

Yes, you can get tutorials on Photoshop for beginners, Lightroom, Bridge, or any other photography programs. You’ll even find a video on winning photo competitions, although I think that’s a bit of overselling.

And if you crave beautiful moon shots, they have those, too. But I followed one, and it didn’t work for me. My fault? I’m sure that’s what the creator would say. And, yes, I use a mirrorless camera, and that shouldn’t make a difference.

It has reached the point where I am looking for one simple camera technique that everyone is touting; back-button focus. My wishes are simple…
