The Unwitting Genesis of a Flash Fiction Story

I’ve written about my crumb method of writing; you can review it here on Medium. In this article, I’ll go into specifics about how I wrote one of two fiction articles; “A Mother’s Prayer,” and the other about chance meetings with strangers.

On an otherwise ordinary day, I had to accompany a friend to a medical appointment. While I sat in a waiting room with large windows facing the street and the East River across the way, I found myself musing about the people on the street.

But I also know I’ve always been prepared and a notebook, retractable pen, and a small digital tape recorder in my pockets. I can write down or dictate my thoughts. I recommend the small Olympus tape recorder that’s inexpensive.

As I stood at the window peering down, I saw a few people waiting near a street corner where there was no indication that it was a bus stop. Indeed, it was a bus stop, but unmarked because it was not meant for public transportation.
