Red Velvet’s Irene Unmasked by Staff She Disrespected
When a K-Pop star lashes out she can expect a retort to her unacceptable behavior
When one of the queens of K-pop disses staff and berates them to the point of tears, is it an indication of the industry or the individual? Today was the day Irene would be revealed as the “she” in an online response to her brutish behavior.
The response was revealing and may have caused quite a stir in the music industry in Korea.
I experienced hell for 20 minutes in an unfamiliar room. This person skipped the greeting and sat right down as this person began spewing insults at my face with her cellphone pointed at me. This person was so emotional that you couldn’t know if she’s talking to everyone in the room or just me. But either way, the target today was me.
Identified in the many media posts as #monster and #psycho, fans began to speculate who this crude woman must have been and they were guessing correctly. Was this expected behavior of a young woman who was enjoying so much success and fortune? Obviously not because she’s one in a line-getting-longer group of pampered princesses who pout and take out their “specialness” on those unfortunate enough to have to work with them.
But a media storm ensued once the worker, Kang Kook Hwa, an editor and pictorial director, vented her hurt and anger on her Instagram account and it got results. Irene had to answer and try to repair her reputation. What did she do? Respond on her Instagram account.
“This is Irene.
I sincerely apologize for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions.
I received a lot of help from people who gave their effort for me to get to where I am now, and I regret that I hurt them greatly with my immature behavior.
This incident has made me look back on the past, and I’m very ashamed of my poor words and actions, and I feel the importance of staff members once again.
I’ll think and act more carefully, so this does not happen again.
I’m truly sorry to the fans who support me and for causing worry because of this incident.”
What can we expect in the future from Irene or any other K-pop princesses fortunate enough to achieve stardom? Only time will tell, but it looks like Irene has felt the sting of a media shaming and may toe the line in the future.
What about it, Irene? Ready to play nice?
