Identifying With the Oppressor Is a Destructive Denial of Self Values

Liberty can be defined in many ways, and it’s not always political, but it may be personal liberty in our household or at work or, yes, government actions. Attempting to survive in an environment where our perception is that we have been oppressed may have two outcomes; we fight for our equality, our humanity, and our political freedom, or we identify with those who have oppressed us.

No, it’s not something most of us can readily accept, and it’s often our failure to perceive it when it is right in front of our faces. Women who are victims of domestic violence will often accept that they deserved the violence because they were to blame for it in the first place.
