Why our eyes and mind wander and when and where they can work together for our benefit in creativity.

The mind is a restless thing, and it demands many things of us at once; unfettered freedom as well as attention and novelty, as does the eye. We must control both of them, or we lose our ability to attend, focus and create. But focus, too, presents its own share of obstacles to creativity since stress plays a major part in what we perceive and how our attention is directed away from our projects.

Daily distractions of the many screens and digital devices that surround us and what has been called “the attention economy,” also push us away from daydreaming, a staple in creativity. In this attention form of economy, production is determined by being constantly busy, never kicking back without guilt.

Multitasking goals are our watchword, and failing those goals means we fail. But we also know that multitasking is a myth of modern technology. So, toss your ideas about multitasking out with the trash and begin to live.

Without realizing it, our creative abilities are being pushed further and further away from realization. We become awash in attending to Facebook and its competitors. They benefit financially, from this, and we are the losers here.
