Hate Crimes, Who Commits Them, and Their Genesis
In an era of rising hate crimes, it’s necessary to understand those who commit them as well as against whom they are directed and how to combat them best.
Hate is a powerful emotion, and it carries with it no degree of rationality in my mind but the potential to manufacture and promote violence toward other groups, including those of color, religious groups, “outside groups,” and women. Once hate infects a group, it is a stew of negative thoughts concocted through disinformation, political purposes, and real or imagined wrongs. In short, hate can easily kill, and the group justifies its actions casually. And there are those lurking “in the weeds,” waiting to strike, spill their bile, and vent their anger, conscious or unconscious.
Reading about some of the atrocities perpetrated by anyone, we should remember that all of us have the ability to hate, love, nourish, or destroy when given the proper incentives. Humans are mailable and must be careful. examine themselves and why certain themes resonate so strongly with them and others. The usual mode of instigation is via the media. Buzzwords are easily collected; now, we can quickly pull out the most potent with AI. Book publishers have known this for many decades, and that’s how they write their cover copy.
