Holding on to guilty feelings accomplishes nothing but robs us of the happiness we deserve in life.

Dealing with guilt is a hard emotional process that can be bad for our physical and mental health. Some efficient strategies for dealing with guilt can help people cope and get over this experience.

While it’s easy to forget about them when you’re feeling guilty, it’s important to start by reminding yourself of all the good things you currently do. This is where keeping a note of all the kind things you do for other people might be helpful. Start a journal to help keep track.

Understanding the distinction between constructive and destructive guilt is also essential. Good guilt follows bad behavior and is proportionate and sensible. Your guilt is urging you to accept responsibility and change your behavior. Unhealthy guilt is excessive, unfounded, and unrelated to any behavior or action.

Writing in a notebook or talking about what happened and why you feel guilty may help you face and process your emotions. Counseling could help you get over these thoughts, especially if you feel guilty even though you've tried to make up for your mistakes and ask for forgiveness.
