Bottom line? Science engages in deception and takes credit where it's not due, regardless of the gender. I had someone insist that she be a co-author of my professional article, and she had the power. The journal wouldn't publish it without an MD on it. She DID NOTHING but read my manuscript, no edits, no additions, nothing. But she got a hit in a professional journal.
